The New Shipbuilding Orders volume is published by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). It uses deadweight tonnage as the calculation basis and serves as one of the industry's key indicators for assessing future business prospects. Along with new orders and order backlog, it forms the three major indicators of the shipbuilding industry. As of 2023, based on country-specific statistics, China has maintained a market share of over 50% in all three indicators, consistently ranking first globally for 14 consecutive years. Among the 18 major global ship types, China holds the top position in new orders for 14 types.
