Euro Area: PPI by Month

Macro

Description

The Euro Area Producer Price Index (PPI) is compiled and released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. The PPI measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. It is a key indicator of inflation at the wholesale level and can be a predictor of future consumer price inflation. Generally, a rising PPI suggests inflationary pressures, while a falling PPI indicates deflationary pressures.

The PPI is calculated based on the prices of a fixed basket of goods and services produced domestically. It includes prices of raw materials, intermediate goods, and final products, covering a wide range of sectors such as manufacturing, mining, and utilities.

The data is updated monthly, typically around the second week of the month, reflecting prices from the previous month.
