China: Banker Survey - Medium Enterprise Loan Demand

Macro

Description

The China Banker Survey - Medium Enterprise Loan Demand Index is released by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) and serves as a comprehensive indicator assessing changes in loan demand from large enterprises within the Chinese banking sector. This index reflects bankers' evaluations of the strength of credit demand from large enterprises in economic activities and is presented as a diffusion index. A higher index value indicates that bankers perceive stronger loan demand from Medium enterprises.

The index is derived from the quarterly Banker Survey, established by the People's Bank of China in 2004. The survey targets senior executives from various banking institutions at the prefecture level and above across the country, including heads of headquarters as well as presidents or vice presidents in charge of credit business at primary and secondary branches. The survey employs a combination of a full census and stratified PPS (Probability Proportional to Size) sampling method, covering approximately 3,200 banking institutions, including foreign banks operating in China.
