China: CPI (YoY, Annual) - All Items (Annual)

Macro

Description

China's Consumer Price Index (CPI) is calculated and published by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). CPI reflects changes in the prices of consumer goods and services purchased by the public.

The degree of inflation and people's purchasing power are usually observed through the CPI annual growth rate (Year-over-Year). The higher the annual growth rate of CPI, the greater the inflationary pressure, and the purchasing power of consumers decreases; on the contrary, the lower the annual growth rate of CPI, the smaller the inflation, and the purchasing power of consumers increases. Generally speaking, a CPI between 2% and 3% is considered a healthy performance of the economy. If it is too high or too low, the central bank may use monetary policy to regulate inflationary pressure.
